Every destination has its own rhythm. These quick tips will help you feel more prepared before arriving in Sri Lanka.

Currency

The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). Carry cash, as many local cafés, shops, and restaurants do not accept cards.

SIM Cards

Tourist SIM cards are easy to buy at the airport. Dialog and Mobitel offer the best coverage across most of the island.

Power Plugs

Sri Lanka uses Type D, M, and G plugs with 230V electricity. A universal travel adapter is the safest choice.

Drinking Water

Avoid drinking tap water. Bottled or filtered water is widely available and recommended throughout your trip.

Temple Etiquette

Cover your shoulders and knees, remove your shoes, and always show respect to Buddha statues and sacred places.
